Septembers Featured Designers

Indonesian born designer, Rinda Salmun graduated her bachelor degree on Fine Art at Bandung Institute of Technology, Indonesia where she specialized in painting and aesthetic studies. Despite studying fine art, fashion has always been one of her greatest interest; in which she would use some fashion influenced into her paintings. She also went to study her master degree in Fashion at Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication.

Her works have been shown at several prestigious Indonesian fashion events such as the Bali Fashion Week and Ringstrassen Gallerien Award Vienna as well as being featured on several fashion magazine in UK and Indonesia.

Now that she is based in London, she is planning to promote her collection to the UK market, which is shown in her latest collection. Her objective is to create wearable artwork.

Rinda Salmun is proud to present her Spring/Summer 2011 collection. This womenswear collection consists of dresses, tops and bottoms, both for daily and evening wear.

Rinda has taken inspiration from the science of dreams to produce a series of innovative prints and silhouettes. She explored the concept of dreams, surrealistic landscapes and how the brain and censor system in a human body works. Brain cells shapes and surreal plant-shapes were the main inspiration to create her fabric prints. Her garments feature digital artwork that was printed into jersey and silk twill which were combined with synthetic leather, silk and nylon to create a striking modern look.

Catwalk Show: FRIDAY 17th 14:00

For many centuries human beings have attached great importance to their clothing, primarily for practical functions. As intellectual capacities developed, another type of function came into being, both decorative and as physical embellishment , which played a major part in great civilizations such as Mesopotamia, Greece, Rome and so on. This included the organization of public spectacles at which the Gods and Goddesses were displayed and adored, the symbol of sacred beauty and fertility.
And because there are no limits to the imagination, perfection in turn cannot be achieved; but yet we may still strive to attain it.
TCA Men’s Couture is striving to find the limit, based on textile fabrics which fire her imagination.
TCA’s collection has been inspired by simple forms and primary colour tones.
Named Point 5, the collection will provide the audience with a raw edgy take on the metro-sexual male.

The collection has two basic elements, day and night.  One has light tones, where whites predominate interspersed with clear, pure colours, with knits of one cut inspired by the revivalist lines of the 18th century. With the other, night, golds predominate, warm colours with chestnut browns for the man who likes feeling smart and knows how to bring out his personality by doing it.
The collection has one basic element only, but with contemporary lines based on high quality fabrics, with colours ranging from bright and warm to very dark browns.

The print also forms part of the silhouette, created with men in mind, the kind of man who after a long day at work wants to feel strong and attractive in a truly original way.

Catwalk Show: FRIDAY 17th 15:30

Ekaterina Kukhareva is a Ukrainian born designer based in London. Ekaterina has graduated from a prestigious Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design with the degree in Textiles specialising in Knitwear.

This Collection has taken its roots from a mythological theme of Egypt and ancient Queen Cleopatra. A development on from a previous collection but consisting of demure fabrics, thigh-skimming dresses and an opulent embellishment this is the perfect balance of Chic and Sexy. The Woman who dares to be brave, strong and sensual at the same time is the modern Undercover Queen. She is seductive and is in control.

‘Quiet’ colours of sandy dunes, camel, grey, pastel pink, grape, black and white will take you on a route to an Egyptian destination and the extravagant shapes of  the bandage dresses will keep you in Style.
The collection’s research derived from looking into the process of mummification and bandages of the Pharaohs bodies in a certain pattern manner. Designers such as: Herve Leger and Azzedine Alaia were very much inspired by this technique and produced garments mainly based on wrapping and constructing the body with the desired shape, tightening some places and shaping others, so that it gives you a flawless figure.

In this collection the boundaries of creating a Bandage Dress were pushed even further to create something luxurious, edgy and unique.
The simplicity of the muted colours is outdone by the gorgeously indulgent materials, including soft cotton yarn, hand-worked macramé and crochet details. And of course the dazzling embellishment of the dresses is the sparkle of Swarovski Crystals.
Luxurious macramé textures, trimmings sexy cut-outs and a body-con cut bring glamour and a maximum exposure for a Collection of the Undercover Queen Gowns.

Sara Shimasué was born in Stockholm, Sweden by a Japanese abstract artist father and a Swedish mother with a particular fondness for British crime novels.

Craving a life less ordinary she was lured to London where a period of self-discovery followed. As the pieces of the jigsaw fell into place she embarked on a life-changing journey at London College of Fashion, emerging after four years with a first class honors degree.
Sara has worked with designers such as Mini-market, Jens Laugesen and previous Fashion Fringe winner Eun Jeong.

Sara Shimasué’s third collection, for Spring/Summer 2011, combines structure with drape and features deliciously wearable garments with dramatic, sculptural accessory pieces developed from origamic structure.
It is a collection loosely inspired by Charlie Chaplin in a bathtub, rust, moths, and envisaged summertime in a foreign, sun-bleached countryside.

Sara Shimasué’s garments are individualistic, yet versatile and decidedly strong whilst still feminine. Her unique collections seek to create a mood rather than interpret direct influences.

For her first showing at Fashion Mavericks Sara will collaborate with Scottish Milliner Sally-Ann Provan.

Hardcastle is a mid to high-end, ready-to-wear, women’s fashion label. Hardcastle will offer original, high quality garments combining the relaxed approach of modern Australia with the tailored and eccentric styling of European Fashion. In summary Hardcastle with be classic styles with a twist.

Modern Australia has a unique fashion style that is able to be clearly distinguished from European fashion lines. Whereas European fashion has a more tailored approach, Australian fashion has a more casual approach. Hardcastle will combine these two notions to create simple, unfussy staple pieces, that are crafted and tailored to perfection.

Hardcastle has strong and unwavering views on the disposable nature of high street fashion where most of it is destined for incinerators or landfill sites. The aim is to create a highly fashionable brand firstly, that fights the trend of the high street. The garments will be high quality pieces that will be treasured for years to come. I want the collection to evolve effortlessly to minimise disposability.

Nicola K Williams is a new designer brand; whose emergence into the fashion world will be lead by her collection of leather sunglasses.  Each pair is completely hand made using high quality leather and craftsmanship.

Nicola Kate Williams’ first collection consists of a range of handmade unisex leather sunglasses that celebrates the versatility of the material whilst exploring their functionality; allowing the wearer to wear them on the head or over the eyes.  The inspiration for this collection came from a fascination with eyewear, and a pair of vintage aviator goggles found in a charity shop.  The use of the leather in these goggles inspired months of experimentation to develop a design that would translate onto the catwalk.   Each pair is completely hand made from high quality materials.

These glasses are a high fashion luxury product, with high quality UV lenses and their hair band form which allows the wearer to wear them comfortably on their head or over the eyes.

“Eyewear as an accessory inspires me.  I am intrigued by its potential to adorn the eyes and transform the silhouette of the face.”
