Fashion Mavericks Seminar & Workshops

We know how hard it is for designers to get their business model together and to understand how best to maximise and reach their brand business goals.

Designers are always faced with a number of dynamic issues to ensure they make a profit while spending a lot of money on creating their collections and introducing the label to the trade and public.

To assist in meeting these challenges, Fashion Mavericks will be setting up a number of workshops and seminars on how to present their label to the market place and equip designers with practicle business skills.

The workshops will also look at how designers can maximise the opportunity of showing during Fashion Week by discussing What buyers look for and how designers can prepare and present their collection.

Going forward, Fashion Mavericks will also have workshops on how to introduce and present your self to press and buyers, manufacturing and what to do after fashion week is over.

Designers who book to showcase during Season 5 this February will be automatically given a free spot to the first series of seminars lead by a leading expert within fashion retail management.

Design communication and how that affects new designers

It is not so much that my creative and logical minds conflict, more that they like to work in different ways. When I am being artistic,  I wholeheartedly immerse myself into a stream of creativity. The internal process that we go through as artists, is no less than deep as we often create from our subconscious. Therefore, to strategize creativity is complex because not only does it contrast with our initial interpretation of it, it also never seems to quite do it justice.   Design communication (or public relations as it is called in layman's terms) merges creativity and logic. It is about appreciating a work of art and communicating its presence. Could there be a task more fabulous than that? After all, it is vital that beauty is advocated; but equally vital is that we are 'outside' that beauty. One of the reasons I enjoy working with new designers so much is because often, they possess this raw energy that has not yet been cultivated by the business world. And that is important because whilst having an understanding of business is good, it is essential that you don't lose your sense as a designer first and foremost. For that reason, it is important to have objective eyes which comprehend your brand and can translate its message to the right people.   So often is PR overlooked; but I implore you to appreciate what I stand for; that our design addiction is fuelled by communication and that without it, we would live in a world where the most phenomenal collections go unnoticed and brilliant talent, diminished. That, my darlings, is the importance of design communication.

Faconner joins Fashion Mavericks to support designers

façonner is a fashion and interior design company. appertaining to the meaning of its name 'to shape, to fashion, to mould, to manufacture', its purpose is to advocate good design. it achieves this by being comprised of four different sectors; pr, editorial, boutique and styling.

façonner's pr sector is fueled by a distinct passion for brands and mastery of communication. it is segregated into two parts. 'practiced designers' sustain the beauty of their brand whilst their strengths are emphasized and communicated to the right markets. 5 words that describe the Enya Patricia Label

Sophisticated
Intriguing
Chic
Alluring
Innovative

When it comes to fashion and developing your brand what drives you?

Simply my love for fashion. Firstly its the satisfaction of seeing a design idea in my head coming to life. Secondly, its the way a single garment or outfit can influence a persons character and allow them to project their personality through their choice of clothing. As a designer I use detailing, quality materials and unique styles and shapes, to give people the opportunity to own clothing that will make them feel extraordinary. Finally and most importantly, I'm driven by the thought of being able to live my life and hopefully build a career to support my family out of what I love doing; producing clothing that hopefully excites people as much as it excites me to create.

Your only 21 and have so far created 4 collections, you showcased during London Fashion Week last season, was invited to exhibit at V&A museum and now Showcasing with Fashion Mavericks this February's London Fashion Week, what dreams do you have for your label?

I am a self-taught designer, so the position I am currently in after just 18 months is a dream in itself, however I have much larger dreams for my label and have complete faith that they are achievable. I am extremely excited to be part of Fashion Mavericks event this coming season, the collection I will be showcasing is a compelling mixture of fur, leather and shape that builds on a union of sophistication and that of a provocative nature. In the near future I wish to showcase my collections worldwide, attending Fashion Weeks in the industry capitals such as Paris, Milan and New York. I dream of having a label that is recognised and adored for its consistent quality and style. My biggest ambition is to eventually have my own boutiques on a worldwide scale.

Whom do you see wearing your clothing?

People I see wearing my clothing are those who share my passion for fashion, who seek clothing that sets them apart for all the right reasons. I would like to have ranges of clothing accessible to the general public who want to be part of Enya Patricia, I also aspire to have a separate stream of one-off designs crafted for celebrity individuals such as Angelina Jolie for her sophistication to Lady Gaga for her outrageous style and the likes of male style icons such as Jude Law and Johnny Depp.

Where do you see your collection being stocked?

Ultimately in my own Enya Patricia boutique's, however I aim to be be involved with many names which I feel my label would work within, from small boutiques to larger companies such as Selfridges and ASOS.

Who do you consider as your 3 top style icons?

Erin Wasson, Kate Moss, Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen. In my opinion they embody the words 'sexy funky cool' and carry a certain elegance even when portraying a look which is relaxed and thrown together at the 'last minute'.

Meet the nature inspired Footwear Designer Elizabeth Dunn

Elizabeth Dunn is a London-based shoe designer with a passion in making traditional English shoemaking contemporary. She trained at Cordwainers – London College of Fashion specializing in BA Honors Footwear. Having Grown up in rural North Yorkshire, nature has always been a huge inspiration gaining ideas from aspects and incidents throughout exploring, femininity, androgyny and any unusual topics, her ranges are solid, innovative, beautiful, and full of contrasts, with dramatic silhouettes.

Can you tell me a little bit about your latest collection and the inspiration behind it?

The Autumn Winter 2011 collection is composed of six designs inspired from the results found within the elements and the earth, ranging from gusts of nature to ingenious erosions. Extracting unrefined elements, almost raw materials, to construct a quality product. Building alliances between roughness and refinement with raw and natural aspects. The colour scheme consists of deep, earthy colours, unblocking the resistances between rawness and glamour.

How did you get into designing Shoes?
I started out in Womenswear and then perfectly fell into Footwear design and I have been doing it ever since. I did a BA Honours in Footwear at Cordwainers College at London College of Fashion. Where I received a thorough technical knowledge in footwear design and production.

It was your first time showcasing at Fashion Mavericks, how did you find it?
This has been such a great accomplishment for myself, to have the opportunity to showcase my Autumn Winter collection, only 2 months after graduating from university,  I was scouted for this and it was such a great opportunity, I was over the moon and really enjoyed every minuet of it. Meeting new people from all over the fashion industry.

What is exciting you right now about fashion?
Lots of new and exciting designers are about these days, being part of the new generation of designers especially in footwear. As for designing myself I try not to follow trends when designing my collections I prefer to produce more classic items that won’t go in and out of fashion. But as ever, I do get inspired from current trends and fashion forecasting’s.

Are you preparing for a new collection anytime soon?
I am currently making a side collection on shoe pieces/attachments, which is very exciting, using a whole range of different materials and techniques; this will be going on sale soon.  I am also designing my next Autumn Winter Collection for 2011-12. As well as interning for a footwear designer, helping me get the experience and knowledge I need to move further in my career.

Which fashion designers have been the most important points of reference for you?
I always really find this question really hard to answer, as my inspiration is always changing. My favourite designer of the moment is Charlotte Olympia – footwear designer, her designs are so feminine, sexy and beautiful. Really love her approach to design. Another modern designer I love is Ziad Ghanem, his alternative approach to fashion design is really attractive and inspirational; he provides a show not just a collection. I would love to work with either, one day in my career.

What do you see as the main goal for your fashion label?
I believe that by taking influences from many different areas of the creative world gives me a well rounded thought process and helps me to generate ideas portraying the correct image for Elizabeth Dunn shoes. I try not to promote throwaway fashion, preferring to build in a manner that achieves longevity and sustainability into my products. I use the best quality materials available, and avoid one season styling. Therefore creating a label that oozes Quality and Style with Added value to purchase through the detailing, the colours, surface detail and unique styles and shapes, allowing the chance to own some shoes that make you feel special. Classic styles are ever inspirational in my designs but with atoning modern twists, creating unusual footwear. “To me, designing shoes is an ever-changing art, in terms of trends and new technologies.

If you weren't a fashion designer, what job would you be doing?
If I wasn’t in the fashion industry I would be defiantly be doing something creative, whether it would be illustration, drawing or something practical. Also I love working with children, which could have been a possible career choice for myself.
